Isothermal Remanent Magnetization (IRM) is a remanent magnetization produced by a brief, non-alternating magnetic field applied at ambient temperature. In laboratory studies of rock magnetism, IRM is imparted using a pulse magnetizer. In nature, IRM can be produced by lightning strikes on or near outcrops.
